Luxembourg Green Business Summit 2012, a real success !

The second edition of Luxembourg Green Business Summit took place on Tuesday, April 24th and confirmed it success. 710 decision makers attended to this event whose leading topic was « Green business to save global economy ? Myths or reality ».

Laurent Rouach, Sustainability & Climate Change Associate at PwC Luxembourg, opened this the conference, insisting on the relevance of eco-responsibility and sustainable development as key issues of current economic activities. The speeches of two internationals guest speakers highlighted on perspectives of realisations and on the importance of creativity for sustainable growth.

Fabrice Bonnifet, QSE (Quality, Security & Environment) and Sustainable Development Director at Bouygues Group developed the idea that balance of power of companies’ added values changed in the last decades. According to him, in the next few years, the economic value of a company will depend on its environmental responsibility. The more socially responsible a company would be, the more competitive and attractive they would stay. This is why sustainable initiatives are now crucial.

That’s why Bouygues Group implemented a large number of eco-responsible activities. The last headquarter built is a positive-energy building that was sold to start a new renovation project. This project attends to prove that energetic achievements are possible to set from an existing building.

Bouygues Group also chose to spread these eco-responsible initiatives to all their activities: softwares and sustainable towns patterns are now part of their strategy. Their social network, Bypedia, is also a way for the employees to exchange and give birth to new initiatives. Fabrice Bonnifet proved that sustainable development can provide a lot of possibilities for companies and represents a source of growth for the future.

Then Dr Francis Quinn, Head of the Sustainable Development at L’Oréal Group, shared his vision and business perspectives provided by sustainable development. Being conscious that more issues can be evaded by the current economic cris – european debt, climate changes – he declared nevertheless that sustainable development is now part of the new economical rules and is the new challenge to take into account.

According to him, not only companies work with economic markets but they also have to target societies as a whole. For consumers, companies shouldn’t be a break problem to climates issues but a part of the solution. Dr Quinn added that socio-political pressure is also contributing to reduce of companies’ environmental impact.

Sustainable investments and commitments are now part of the economic business: the whole chain product has to be modified to create a local and international sustainable consumption. According to Francis Quinn, it will not mean reducing the consumption but improving life conditions and ways of consuming. However, it seems to be essential to understand that companies can’t do it on their own. This is also up to the communication between companies and citizens-consumers.

The conference ended with the Luxembourg Green Business Awards Ceremony. Local green projects and initiatives were rewarded by the votes of a jury composed of 50 CEOs from Luxembourg. The success of this ceremony revealed the growing important of Green Business in Luxembourgish economic activities. Attendees had a chance to meet and exchange thanks to an exceptional networking coktail.

Résultats des Morningstar Fund Awards Luxembourg 2012

Hier soir s’est tenue la cérémonie de remise des prix Morningstar Fund Awards Luxembourg, à l’Etablissement Namur. 120 professionnels du secteur des fonds se sont réunis pour découvrir les vainqueurs autour d’un diner placé.

Philippe Moriau, directeur Morningstar Luxembourg, a endossé le rôle de maitre de cérémonie, et a été accompagné dans son rôle par San Lie, Head of Fund Research Morningstar Benelux.

La cérémonie a également été marquée par le discours de Jan Jaap Hazenberg, PhD et conférencier à l’Université de Luxembourg.

13 Awards récompenseront cette année les entreprises luxembourgeoises issues de tous secteurs d’activité confondus. Les Luxembourg Green Business Awards 2012 ont pour but la mise en lumière des meilleures pratiques, l’émulation et la reconnaissance par les dirigeants luxembourgeois des meilleures solutions Green du marché.
Les principaux critères proposés sont l’innovation, la stratégie, la politique environnementale, les produits et les investissements durables ainsi que les accréditations officielles. L’ancrage ainsi que l’engagement local des structures sont essentiels pour être candidat.
