Microsoft has confirmed the “third phase” of its partnership with OpenAI, proud owner of the trendy AI-chatbot ChatGPT.

In a press release disclosed yesterday, Microsoft has confirmed the “third phase” of its partnership with OpenAI, proud owner of the trendy AI-chatbot ChatGPT. This announcement hence comforts the recent rumors on the large amount of money invested in OpenAI, and Microsoft’s future AI-projects development.

Microsoft has soon invested in the AI-specialized company OpenAI back in 2019 considering the potential AI technological advances. The two companies formed a partnership “around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform”, explained Microsoft Chairman & CEO Satya Nadella.

Behind the third phase of this “multibillion” Microsoft-OpenAI partnership, the idea is to implement OpenAI’s models into their consumer and enterprise products. The latter encompasses Word, Outlook, or Bing; and Microsoft recently announced that ChatGPT is to be included within Azure OpenAI Service. This does demonstrate the tech giant’s high interest and trust in AI.

“In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications – Satya Nadella

Microsoft has clearly engaged in a race against time in terms of both innovation and AI with other big tech enterprises. There is notably Google which is also incorporating AI in its products, such as Search, Gmail, YouTube, or Maps. Microsoft is willing to be a pioneer in AI-based products through this strong partnership with OpenAI.

Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO, asserted that he is satisfied with the partnership with Microsoft. “Microsoft shares our values and we are excited to continue our independent research and work toward creating advanced AI technology that benefits everyone”, he added.
